Australian creators: compare audio and video podcast studios

Choose the booking whose written quote matches the participant count, camera setup, operator role, post-production and file handover—not the package with the longest equipment list. PodPro offers assisted dry hire, Animus separates self-operation from technician and engineer support, and Mic’dUp ranges from bring-your-own-producer hire to edited delivery.[1][2][4]

Define the recording before comparing studios

Prepare a booking brief covering:

  • Participants and content: list every host and guest, and whether the session involves speech, music, video or production photography. Offshoot recommends checking these points, including lighting needs, before choosing a studio.[3]
  • Capture: specify the number of active microphones, headphones and simultaneous camera angles, plus whether isolated audio or video files are required.
  • Session length: separate access, setup, recording and pack-down time.
  • Operating responsibility: nominate whether the equipment will be run by the client, a client-supplied producer, a setup technician or the studio’s engineer.
  • Deliverables: identify whether the required endpoint is raw recordings, mastered ISO files, mixed audio, an edited video or ready-to-publish files.

Location, parking, stairs, accessible doorways, amenities and acoustic treatment may also affect the choice.[3]

Compare Australian podcast studio options

This comparison covers stated package scope, not independently tested recording quality or a market-wide ranking.

PodPro Australia

  • Capacity and capture: Audio-only dry hire accommodates up to four people. Audio and video dry hire includes up to three cameras.[1]
  • Operator support: Both options are labelled dry hire, although an operator is available for setup and help.[1]
  • Editing and handover: Include editing, export and final-file delivery scope in the written quote.[1]

Animus Studios

  • Capacity and capture: The treated production suite and voiceover booth include microphones, preamps, monitoring and headphone systems.[2]
  • Operator support: Clients can self-operate, bring an engineer or producer, add technician help for setup and patching, or book an Animus engineer to run the session.[2]
  • Editing and handover: Editing and mastering can be added after self-recorded voiceover. Animus says it helps back up and export the session at wrap so the client leaves with the work.[2]

Mic’dUp Podcast Studios

  • Capacity and capture: Mic’dUp describes both studios as customisable, soundproofed, acoustically treated and live-monitored.[4]
  • Operator support: Plug & Play requires the client’s producer to monitor recording; Pro Flow adds recording assistance; Broadcast Boss covers full production.[4]
  • Editing and handover: Pro Flow supplies professionally mastered audio and video as ISO files and requires a fast SSD of at least 1 TB. Broadcast Boss includes one edited podcast video and mixed audio.[4]

Creative Spaces — Paddington Podcast Studio

  • Capacity and capture: The listing includes a RØDECaster and four RØDE microphones. Its structured field says capacity is two, while the description says the studio can hold four people.[5]
  • Operator support: The quote needs to assign operation and monitoring responsibility.[5]
  • Editing and handover: Post-production, export and delivery require written confirmation.[5]

Collab Brindabella

  • Capacity and capture: Collab lists a four-person, acoustically treated studio with microphones, audio-recording equipment and monitoring.[6]
  • Operator support: Technical support is available on request.[6]
  • Editing and handover: Include post-production and file-delivery requirements in the written quote.[6]

Offshoot Studios Canberra provides a studio-selection checklist covering participant and content needs, location and access, equipment, amenities, production, pricing structures and add-ons.[3]

Compare the operator models carefully

Dry hire does not describe one consistent level of service across these studios.

  • Self-operated: Animus dry hire gives clients access to its facilities and equipment while allowing them to bring their own engineer or producer.[2]
  • Setup assistance: Animus offers technician help with setup and patching.[2]
  • Engineer-operated: An Animus engineered session assigns its engineer to run the room.[2]
  • Assisted dry hire: PodPro calls its options dry hire but provides an on-hand operator for setup and help.[1]
  • Client-supplied producer: Mic’dUp Plug & Play requires the client’s producer to monitor recording.[4]
  • Recording through finished delivery: Mic’dUp Pro Flow provides recording assistance and mastered ISO files, while Broadcast Boss includes full production, an edited video and mixed audio.[4]

The quote should state who monitors audio levels and cameras throughout the session, responds to faults, exports files and performs editing.

Compare total cost, not the room rate

PodPro publishes separate assisted dry-hire prices for audio-only and audio/video bookings. These amounts are in Australian dollars and exclude GST; four-hour and eight-hour packages are stated booking durations, not inferred day lengths.[1]

  • Audio-only, up to four people — Hourly: A$149 plus GST; Four hours: A$399 plus GST; Eight hours: A$599 plus GST.[1]
  • Audio/video, up to three cameras — Hourly: A$199 plus GST; Four hours: A$549 plus GST; Eight hours: A$899 plus GST.[1]

Both options advertise an on-hand operator for setup and help.[1] That wording does not establish full-session engineering, editing or final-file delivery. Ask whether setup and pack-down consume the booked hours and obtain a final GST-inclusive quote for the required support and deliverables.

Creative Spaces lists the Paddington studio at $50 per hour excluding GST.[5] Collab Brindabella starts at $60 per hour excluding GST for four people.[6] Animus offers hourly and daily hire but requires an enquiry with proposed dates for confirmed availability and pricing.[2]

PodPro says “no contracts – cancel anytime”, but its cited page does not give a notice period, refund conditions or other cancellation consequences.[1] Mic’dUp’s cited package page does not state whether its prices include GST.[4]

Request a line-item quote covering:

  • Room time: access, setup, recording and pack-down, with included hours identified.
  • Production support: technician, operator, engineer or producer time, including whether support continues throughout the recording.
  • Extra time: overtime rates, billing increments and minimum hire.
  • Post-production: editing, audio mixing, mastering, revisions and exports.
  • Media and transfer: required storage devices, uploads and other delivery charges.
  • GST: the treatment of each line item and the final GST-inclusive amount.

Specify file handover and backup responsibility

Mic’dUp Pro Flow promises mastered video and audio as ISO files, but the cited page does not define their formats. Broadcast Boss includes an edited podcast video and mixed audio without stating formats or delivery timing.[4]

Animus says it helps back up and export the session at wrap, but its cited page does not identify who owns any retained backup or how long copies remain available.[2]

The accepted quote should specify:

  • Audio files: the final mix, required isolated microphone tracks, format, bit depth and sample rate.
  • Video files: the edited program, required isolated camera files, resolution, codec and audio synchronisation.
  • Delivery: whether raw files are handed over on the day, how later files are transferred and when edited deliverables are due.
  • Revisions: the number and scope included in the price.
  • Storage: who supplies any SSD, verifies the transfer and keeps backups.
  • Retention: how long the studio keeps files and when they are deleted.

What to confirm with each provider

The cited pages leave some or all of the setup treatment, minimum hire, overtime, cancellation detail, final technical formats, transfer timing, storage and deletion terms unresolved: PodPro, Animus and Mic’dUp [1][2][4], and Paddington and Collab [5][6].

Before paying a deposit, check that one quote or booking document records:

  • Configuration: seated participants, active microphones, headphones, camera angles, lighting and isolated tracks.
  • Timing: access, setup, recording and pack-down periods, plus the point at which overtime starts.
  • Staffing: who sets up, monitors, troubleshoots and exports the recording.
  • Total price: minimum hire, overtime, operator support, media, post-production, revisions, delivery and GST.
  • Changes: deposits, payment deadlines, cancellation windows, rescheduling fees and refund consequences.
  • Deliverables: raw and edited files, ISO tracks, formats, resolution, transfer method and delivery deadline.
  • File custody: backup ownership, storage period, recovery process and deletion date.

Resolve the Paddington capacity conflict [5] and PodPro’s full-session operator role [1] in writing before selecting either configuration.
